AI Foundation Course

Course Information:

Course Title: AI Foundation Course

Year: 2025 - 2026

Target Audience: Form 1 or above

Prerequisite(s): Nil

Learning Hours: 2.0

Course Description:

This course introduces students to the fascinating world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Designed for curious learners with any level of prior knowledge, it combines explanation with hands-on activities to ensure both understanding and engagement.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain how AI works: Demonstrate a working knowledge of fundamental AI concepts and how they operate.

  2. Interact effectively with AI systems: Communicate and collaborate with AI tools to enhance your productivity and creativity.

  3. Critically evaluate AI systems: Utilize AI technology responsibly with confidence, understanding its capabilities and limitations.

Topics:

L1: AI Foundations: Emerging Across Boundaries

This session provides an overview of artificial intelligence, from its core concepts to its real-world implications. Students will explore:

  • Core Concepts: Distinguish the core relationships and hierarchies between Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL).

  • Machine Learning in Action: Discover classification through an interactive activity and see how it leads to Computer Vision and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs).

  • The Language of AI: Demystify how Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) architecture work. Compare deployment methods (downloadable vs. API-based) and solidify understanding through a collaborative "Human LLM" game.

  • AI with a Body: Understand how Physical AI uses computer vision, simulation, and reinforcement learning to see, think, and act in the world.

  • Critical Perspective: Contrast traditional programming with AI and initiate a crucial discussion on the ethical and philosophical implications of AI.
