Course Description:

This course introduces students to drones. Designed for beginners, it combines essential safety knowledge with hands-on flight practice, providing foundation in drone operation and its real-world applications within Hong Kong's burgeoning low-altitude economy.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Explain Hong Kong's drones legislation and fundamental principles of drone operation and safety.

2. Perform essential pre-flight checks and basic flight maneuvers, including take-off, landing, and Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) flying.

3. Apply learned piloting skills to complete a simple navigational challenge.

L1: Future Flyers - A Hands-On Drone Adventure

This session provides a comprehensive introduction to drones, from the rules of the sky to hands-on piloting. Students will explore:

• The Rules of the Sky: Understand Hong Kong's drone legislation, key safety publications, and why they are important.

• Drone Basics: Learn the fundamental components, aerodynamics, and operation of a typical drone like the DJI Neo.

• The Drone Economy: Discover the real-world applications and growing industry of low-altitude economy.

• Safety First: Conduct step-by-step pre-flight checks and learn standard procedures for take-off and landing.

• Hands-On Piloting: Gain practical flight experience, mastering basic controls and Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) principles.

• Skill Application: Reinforce learning through a friendly, timed obstacle course challenge.
